Who is behind CalcolaFerie and how it calculates bridges
CalcolaFerie is a free calculator of bridges between Italian public holidays. This page explains who runs it, how it does the maths and where its data comes from, so you can decide how far to trust the results.
Who runs it
CalcolaFerie is an independent, non-commercial project, built and maintained by Spatariu Rares. It has no ads or affiliate links and needs no sign-up: the calculation runs entirely in your browser.
How it calculates bridges
For every holiday that falls on a working day, the calculator looks for the days of leave that join it to the weekend or to nearby holidays. It takes into account your leave budget, company closures (free or charged to your leave), your patron saint and the working days of your week, then sorts the combinations from the most worthwhile.
Leverage
Every bridge has a leverage: consecutive days off divided by the days of leave spent. One day of leave that turns a weekend into four days off has a leverage of 4×. Combinations that yield too little are not offered as bridges, and the threshold depends on length: the shorter the bridge, the higher its leverage must be.
Sources
The national holidays are those of Law no. 260 of 27 May 1949 as amended, including the feast of St. Francis of Assisi on 4 October, a national holiday again from 2026 under Law no. 151 of 8 October 2025. Easter and Easter Monday are computed with the anonymous Gregorian algorithm. For the rules on leave, the articles refer to Article 36 of the Italian Constitution, Article 2109 of the Civil Code and Legislative Decree 66/2003.
How the articles are written
The yearly guides and the articles on leave rules are written by hand. The articles on single bridges always start from the calculator's numbers: some are generated from a fixed text template, others written with the help of an AI model that is not allowed to add dates or numbers other than the calculated ones. When an article is corrected after publication, the date of the update appears under the title.
Limits
The results are indicative. The calculator does not know your collective agreement, your company rules or the local holidays you do not enter. Before requesting leave or booking a trip, always check with your employer.
